Earaches are not difficult to resolve at home.
The most economical tool is garlic. Garlic oil can be rubbed on the bottoms of the feet, around the ear and dripped in (2 drops in each ear) at night to kill infection. Two cloves of garlic is equal in strength to an adult dose of penicillin.

GARLIC OIL RECIPE
Combine 1 chopped clove of garlic with 2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil in a covered container.
Let sit for at least 2 hours. The longer the garlic sits in the oil, the stronger the oil becomes. After a few days, or when you’re done using the oil for the time being, strain out the garlic and refrigerate leftover oil for future use. Dr. Christopher makes garlic oil, if you just want to get his.
You can also buy ear oil already made at your health food store. This oil in a dropper should run between $5-$10 a bottle and can be a blend of herbs and garlic. Look for one with mullein in it.
Mullein is an herb which helps with ear pain. If you can’t find it in a pre-made oil, you can buy some cut mullein and add it to your homemade oil. Just strain it out of the oil before you apply it.
Another potent tool for ear infections is essential oil. Basil is best, but thyme, rosemary,
eucalyptus, oregano and cinnamon will also work well. These need to be diluted with carrier oil like olive oil or fractionated coconut oil. I only rub these around the ear (not put in ear), or drip them on a cotton ball I lay over ear or I rub on the bottoms of the feet.
Many different oils can be effective because most of them have strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. Also excellent is Doterra’s protective blend, On Guard. I rub this on the bottom of my kids’ feet to boost their immune system and help fight infection wherever it may be in their body.
I also give my kids Dr. Christopher’s Kid-e-Well herbal formula internally, which also helps fight infection and boost immunity.
Often, the cause of ear infections is mucus overload in the body. Mucus is formed by many environmental factors, but diet is most often the largest contributor. When mucus sits long enough, Mother Nature uses infection (viruses & bacteria) to devour mucus and “clean house.”
The biggest mucus producers are:
- animal & dairy products (most notably milk, eggs, meat & cheese)
- white flour
- white sugar
- other processed and unnatural foods
These items need to be avoided for a time, at least until the body can cleanse itself without clogging the ear canals or respiratory channels. Water with a few drops of lemon essential oil (I sweeten with Stevia Extract Powder) helps cut mucus faster.
I always give my children a squirt of Kid-e-Reg to make sure the digestive tract is moving to assist the body in getting the junk out.
Prune juice works well, too.
I’m amazed that so many antibiotics are used for minor infections, which results in killing off of the healthy flora in the digestive tract and weakening the immune system. This practice also contributes to antibiotic-resistant superbugs. Using oils and herbs can not only resolve the problem, but preserves digestive flora and strengthens the immune system.
These natural tools help heal the root cause of ear infections making them less likely to repeat.
Get empowered, get rid of those obnoxious infections and take control of your child’s health!
Believe me, it feels great!

Found a great product to share with you. It’s called Nature’s Amazing Ear Infection Cures. This Australian lady naturopath teaches how to use natural (easy to find) tools to strengthen and heal the body and prevent further infections.
I’ve read this and like it so much I’ve decided to be an affiliate for her product. This eBook goes into much more depth than my article & is offers natural remedies. She has a great freebie too about natural antibiotics. To see more CLICK HERE.

Yes! One of the greatest natural remedies to curing most common ear infections. Garlic is the way to go.
Thanks for posting.
I had no idea! Great info. My 8 month old has gotten 4 ear infections since December and been put on antibiotics each time. She just started grabbing at her ears while getting new teeth yesterday and I have been getting worried about the hastiness of her pediatrician to put her on antibiotics again. Would these treatments be okay to use on her, or would it need to be scaled back for use with an infant?
Hi Megan! Yes, these treatments are safe for infants. I find it is best to do small amounts as often as I can for the best results.
My toddler actually ruptured his eardrum when he was 1, and I didn’t know it until I saw stuff coming out his ear. He hadn’t cried or anything. I rubbed oils on a few times that day and then forgot about it. Two days later more stuff came out, so I used the basil oil and it went away for good. These remedies really work and are so much healthier than antibiotics.
I am curious about how rubbing things on the soles of the feet works. I know it does because I have done the vick’s on the bottom of my feet to help a cough thing, I am just curious about why it works.
I got rid of strep using garlic and cayenne pepper a few years ago, it was only the second time I had ever gotten it (I didn’t go to a dr. I just figure it mas strep because of how it felt compared to the first time I had gotten it) and a few days of eating lots of garlic and gargling with saline and cayenne solution cleared it right out.
I really need to learn more about all of this kind of stuff, we really want to get away from traditional chemical medications and move to more natural remedies, maybe someday I can even give up the excederin!
I’m glad to hear about you getting rid of strep. That’s great!
There are many nerve endings in the feet. There is actually a map of all the body’s organs on the feet which reflexologists use to stimulate healing in the individual body organs. So when you rub things on the bottoms of your feet, the medicinal properties get absorbed by the entire body very quickly.
Garlic can be smelled on someone’s breath 30 seconds after rubbing it on their feet. It gets absorbed into the bloodstream and comes out the respiratory tract. Cool huh!
Maybe I should get you some wintergreen oil for pain!
I think that within 20 seconds of rubbing essential oils on the bottom of the feet they are absorbed into the blood stream to be carried where needed in the body. They also oxygenate the blood to help your body function better.
Dave Stirling also had a great visual last night to display how essential oils can be anti-viral and anti-bacterial as opposed to common anti-biotics. The Virus lives within the cell- the bacteria on the outside. Essential oils can penetrate trough the cell wall- where anti-biotics don’t. It finally made sense. Amazing stuff!! I love your site jenni!
Thanks for your comments, Kareena. Your information is helpful, too!
Hi Jenni,
Could I possibly share this information in a class I am giving later this month? It would be very beneficial.
I’m glad you find it helpful. I hope you don’t mind telling people where you found it, and feel free!
I will definitely tell them about your site! Thanks.
Hey Jenni
Your ideas and site are great. I got your site from your sister Ami. I met her at Excel Eye Center in Provo. She was taking your grandpa to get his eyes checked and then Ami and i just started talking. She is sooo knoweledgable too. I love emailing her. She has helped me sooooo much!!!!.
On the Do Terra oils, what would you recommend for anxiety?? any idea’s?
Fun! Ami is so dear! I’m glad you got to meet her!
I’ve had anxiety all my life, and I believe it’s been yeast related. Refined foods can be big contributors. So you might investigate that.
Vickie & Dr Christopher both have a Relax-Ease herbal formula I really like and recommend. Doterra has an oil blend called Serenity that works well, and of course, lavender. You can rub a drop on the bottoms of your feet, on the back of your neck, diffuse it in a bowl of boiling water (or a diffuser) or just smell it out of the bottle.
My favorite for anxiety is balance or citrus bliss!
Thanks for your input. I appreciate it! What about any oils for Candida?
Most essential oils are anti-fungal, just getting them that deep in the body where the yeast is strongest is sometimes difficult. Doterra has a product called GX Assist that is an enteric coated gelcap of the essential oils oregano, melaleuca, lemon, lemongrass, peppermint, thyme and caprylic acid. Putting some of these oils in an empty capsule yourself can help a lot too. I went off sugar for a while when I was fighting it. Doterra’s is a 10 day cleanse, and it would be good to follow up with a course of probiotics. If you’re not involved with Doterra, now is a good time to sign up. They’ve got a free membership deal going right now. If you’re interested just email me through the contact form.
Jenni
Do you remember about how long you went off Sugar? or tried to do a yeast free diet? Did your body hurt? what were your symptoms? I will look more into the cleanse stuff.
I went off all sugar & bread for a whole year. My body felt better, although my cravings were out of control for a couple years. I wish I had known about essential oils. They can really speed up the process.
what essential oils are good for the colon?
All the tummy herb oils are excellent. Peppermint is the traditional recommendation. I like using a combination like Doterra’s Digestzen. Over time, these oils will heal the intestinal tract and help it function properly. Doterra’s GX Assist, followed by the PB Assist is excellent therapy. I also use Dr Christopher’s Lower Bowl formula which does the same thing but isn’t as concentrated. I’m planning to do a post on this sometime.
do you rub the oil on the stomach or take it with water? and how long does Doterra think it takes to get the intestinal tract back to functioning normal? Sorry for all the questions, i just have never used oils before.
You can take it internally in an empty capsule. It’s really strong to take in water unless it’s just 1 drop. Usually I just rub on tummies. And no one can give a time frame on intestinal healing. It depends on the body, diet history and frequency or type of cleanses and treatment. Learning new things is definitely a process. I’ve been there
My daughter’s torso was covered with viral ‘dots’ (not chicken pox) which the doctor said it would run it’s course in 6-12 months or so…
I treated it with garlic and oo and within weeks it was gone! After showing this to our doctor and telling him what I used, he agreed garlic has special properties and there is a lot of things medical doctors do not know! Wow! I was shocked my doc told me this. I was new to the area, and ‘do-it-myself’ medicines at the time. But learned quickly the power of garlic.
We use it for cuts, earaches, fevers, spaghetti and on and on… I buys Sam’s bulk and love it.
That is so awesome! I just recommended a relative to do that treatment for her son with a similar condition. I’m happy to hear that it worked for you. Isn’t it great when we can handle things ourselves? Good job!
