I just got an email from Jim Matheson and here’s my response.
Jim is my representative for the 2nd District of Utah. I really like the way he communicates with his constituents.
He does public, town meetings with a large number of people over the phone. He asks what our concerns are, and tries to respond to them. He sends out surveys by email and asks for feedback.
And boy do I give him feedback. He’s concerned about people having access to “quality” healthcare. Well, who determines what is quality? The American Medical Association? The pharmaceutical industry? Doctors? Most of these folks are financially vested in keeping the current system mostly the way it is.
The problem with this scenario, is that there’s an abundance of drug-based treatments that are killing people at an alarming rate. And the competition (natural healthcare) is being restricted and censored in the name of public safety.
I realize there’s quacks in every profession, but it’s going to be a long time before natural health practitioners kill as many people as do our conventional drugs. Yet, these natural practitioners have to watch every word that comes out of their mouths or they could be jailed.
Is this freedom of speech? Is the American public really so gullible that we can’t decide for ourselves what’s true and what’s not? Why does the government have to monitor all speech from this industry? It makes me mad, if you can’t tell.
Anyway, so here’s the letter I wrote back to Jim Matheson. Just thought I’d share. The more we all know about it, the less easily our freedoms can be taken away in the future.
“It is ridiculous that the FDA recently issued a warning to a great doctor and natural health advocate, Andrew Weil, MD for stating a natural health product could help ‘ward off colds.’
Our government is supposed to be protecting our health interests, not suppressing information that may benefit us, and robbing us of our ‘freedom to know.’
The pharmaceutical industry maintains a strangling monopoly on our healthcare system, and yet their drug products kill more people each year than 20 times 9/11.
The natural healthcare industry has a multitude of safe, effective treatments that could dramatically ease our healthcare burden if given the chance.
Please help restore our freedom of choice in this matter by defending freedom of speech for natural healthcare practitioners and their products.
Thank you!”
So readers, if you get the opportunity or feel so inclined, maybe you could mention this to your representatives.
It’s definitely a point to ponder.

I checked out your site since you changed it, it looks GREAT!
