Resolving Sore or Strep Throat

I’ve had 2 calls in the last week about sore or strep throat, so I thought I’d share my recommendations.

My throat is my barometer for the well-being of my body. When my throat starts to hurt, I know I need to cut back on heavy foods (especially after the holidays) and give my body a break.

Here are a few things I do to help my body get balanced again and fight any infections that may be starting. Read more…

  • Yeast Infection No More-I struggled with yeast infections and Candida for years and was miserable. It can affect you negatively in so many ways! I cleansed for 3 years to get rid of my symptoms and feel like I had it under control. I wish I had "Yeast Infection No More" which would have guided me better. Linda has 240 pages of thorough information on how to get yeast back into balance. I highly recommend it!

  • Family Manifesto Inspiring Family Manifestos - I have purchased one of each of these manifestos and LOVE them! I would count it as a whole year of education if my children could internalize the amazing messages on  these manifestos! I feel they are worth every penny I spent as an investment in teaching my children values. Check it out and don't forget to look at the package deals!

  • Personal Path to Pregnancy-I really like this program for addressing fertility problems! I've reviewed others I did not like. Beth's recommendations are in line with what I know to be true regarding health and natural tools. She is clear and comprehensive while addressing common conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, abnormalities, miscarriage, RPL, thyroid dysfunction, and more! I strongly recommend following this program along with taking Vickie Sorensen's FemEase formula to increase fertility.

  • Mommy Without Pounds-I loved going through Michelle's comprehensive program! Learn how to feel great, loose unwanted pounds, resolve problems and safely develop washboard abs after childbirth. She even has a specific exercise program during breastfeeding, bonus charts, recipes, and more. It's fantastic!

  • Home Pregnancy Massage-Not only does she address how to use massage during each trimester to address specific problems, she even has a whole section on labor and delivery.  Bonus videos included. Wish I'd had this for my last pregnancy!

  • Nature's Amazing Ear Infection Cures - This Australian lady naturopath teaches how to use natural (easy to find) tools to strengthen and heal the body and prevent further infections. I bought this and really like it. This eBook goes into more depth than my article & it offers many good natural remedies. She has a great freebie too about natural antibiotics!

  • Prince or Princess? Plan Your Baby Program - I've known for a while that it's possible to choose the gender of a baby. I charted my own cycles for a time because I didn't want to use birth control, and the book I used mentioned it. Alicia's product outlines how to do it in easy steps. It's 94.8% successful, which is very good odds. It works. It just takes effort, know-how and good planning. If you're willing to do it, then this is a great program to follow.

  • 12 Steps to Whole Foods Course - My friend, Robyn Openshaw, aka Green Smoothie Girl, has an excellent course for becoming knowledgeable at using whole foods in the kitchen.  So if you're trying to get off a junk food diet, or need more ideas for healthy food preparation and lifestyle, I definitely recommend this.

How I Eliminated My Son’s Eczema

***  Please note this story was updated on October, 2010 and September, 2011.  You can read the updates at the end of the post.   ***

My oldest son, Noah was born with sensitive skin – extremely sensitive.  He was a happy baby with baby zits and an adorable smile. We thought he just had dry skin because we live in the desert.

Em & Baby NoahHis cheeks were always red from the dryness.  But it also affected him in his cute little rolls, his elbows, back of his knees, and his ankles. Read more…

Top 10 Things to Do When Your Child Might Have the Swine Flu

First off, don’t fear. This illness spreads fast, but it’s not that dangerous, especially when you do a few simple things to stack the deck in your favor.

#1- Get Elderberry. It cuts flu recovery time from 6 days to IMG_11792. Health food stores have it in many varieties since a flu study came out a few years ago. I double the dose of most products for my own family if I suspect flu. I recommend Dr. Christopher’s Elderberry Extract or Vickie’s Flubuster and use 1-2 dropperfuls every hour in a drink. Elderberry prevents the virus from getting into healthy cells. Read more…

Is Swine Flu Killing Us, or The Drugs?

The world is scared of the Swine Flu. It shouldn’t be. There are many easily obtained, effective remedies available.

However, the sheer number of 162,000 cases worldwide has some countries scanning the body temperatures of travelers to pinpoint fevers and using other types of scrutiny to detect potential cases of Swine Flu. Read more…

Natural Substitutes for Robitussin Cough Suppressant & Expectorants

The best treatments for coughs and mucus may not be what you think.

Cough suppression and expectorant formulas by Robitussin generally contain the drugs Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin.

Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. It affects the signals in the brain that trigger the cough reflex.  Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in the chest and throat, making it easier to cough out. Read more…

Teething Pain Solutions

Hi, this is Jenni’s sister Emili. I am more of a novice when it comes to herbs and oils, I haven’t taken many courses or had quite the extensive experience that Jenni has, but I try new things and learn as I go. I’ll be posting to share some of my experiences as I have them.

I have a 9 month old baby girl who has recently been teething. I noticed it about a month ago when she started acting fussy for no apparent reason. I decided to try some oils since I know they act quickly.

I took a 4 oz spray bottle and put in a few drops of clove and cinnamon (known to be good for pain and numbing), and some lemon and wild orange oils. The citrus is good for the immune system and it makes it taste yummy. I also added some Pure Stevia Extract Powder. Read more…

Quick Twisted Ankle Relief

I’m doing a vendor booth for Doterra oils this weekend at the American Family Festival.  I went to a meeting this morning, on last minute details and learned that Lena Hughes, mom of the Hughes Brothers (largest performing family in the world, from Branson, MI) had twisted her ankle last night.

When the meeting ended, I pulled out a bottle of Vickie’s “Cuts and Bruises” oil and dripped it all over her swollen ankle.  After a couple minutes, she was very surprised to report that it felt better.

When you’re running a HUGE event, you want to at least be able to walk around, right? Read more…

Pleasant Bug Repellent: Is There Such A Thing?

I was out surveying my garden today, and there were some little flies buzzing around my face, driving me absolutely crazy.  So I decided to get out my “Terrashield,” Doterra’s repellent oil blend, and apply some to myself.

First of all, I’ve bought a lot of “natural” bug repellents, and most of them smelled strongly unpleasant, but I continued to use them because I hate DEET.  It causes neurological damage, especially to small children. Read more…

Hay Fever Attacks!

Frankly, I’m getting tired of them . . .allergy attacks, that is.  I hear Cedar City has a fairly high pollen count.

All I know is, on and off, all spring and summer I get sneezy, runny nose, itchy throat and sometimes itchy eyes.
I’ve noticed that it’s worse when the clouds roll in.  It doesn’t make any sense to me, but it definitely gets worse when rain is threatening.  When I eat too much dairy, my symptoms are exacerbated further. Read more…

Oils To The Rescue!

My son had his last baseball game of the season tonight.  We do sports about once a year for each child, otherwise our lives are too crazy.  Anyway, I decided to take the kids out afterward for some food and dessert at Hogi Yogi.  I try not to buy things with white sugar, but we splurge here and there.  We ate chicken and brown rice, then frozen pineapple yogurt with raspberries on top.  Sounds pretty benign, right? Discovering doTERRA

dr-mom-oilsMy sister, Emili, invited me to a meeting a few months ago, to learn about a new company selling essential oils.  Just the previous month, I had dropped a wad of money buying essential oils from Vickie for my emergency preparedness cabinet.

Essential oils have a pretty long shelf life if they are protected from heat, oxygen and light.  So I figured it would be a good investment.  With the economy the way it is, I wanted to be prepared with effective tools with which to care for my family. Read more…

First Experiences with Essential Oils

After Mike’s residency, he landed a job in southern Utah, where we still happily reside.

I was pregnant with our fourth child when we moved from Tucson to Cedar City, so I started hunting for a good midwife.  I was ready for a different experience than I had had with my previous three births. Read more…
