Healing Sore or Damaged Muscles, Tissue & Bone

I tend to hold lots of tension in my trapezius, which are the muscles between the shoulders and neck.

If I do yoga regularly and am keeping those muscles stretched, I don’t have much problem.

But when I’m not doing yoga and I’m carrying a baby or heavy purse around a lot or spending hours at a time on the Read more…

Preparing Your Pregnancy Against Miscarriage

This is Emili, Jenni’s younger sister.  You might have read in one of my previous posts where I mentioned that my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage.  After successfully having 3 more pregnancies and 3 more children, I recently became pregnant again late last year.  This time I had some complications and began spotting around 9 weeks.

To make a long story short, when I went in to get an ultra sound at 12 weeks, there was no heart beat and I lost the baby.  It was a very difficult experience for me, and I felt very alone, although blessed to have 3 beautiful children to hold on to as I grieved my loss.

The purpose of this post is to share some of the tips I picked up to help others avoid the same problem.  These are things Read more…

Essential Oil Basics

With seven rambunctious kids, I have to have good home medical tools. I’d go crazy if I didn’t. Essential oils have given me effective and nurturing ways to treat my family’s ills.

I finished a master herbalist degree a couple summers and have been studying essential oils. I still use herbs for various health issues, but I have found essential oils to be much more effective than regular herbs in treating many problems.
They are as potent as drugs, without the side effects. So, even though my husband is an ER physician, I end up treating the Read more…

No More Neosporin: Tools For Infection & Healing

Neosporin is gone for good at our house. We don’t ever look back. My kids know our essential oils and ointment work so well, they’re begging for these whenever they get a scratch (which is about every 10 minutes).

Why would we want a natural alternative to antibiotic ointment? Conventional thinking teaches us that we need to kill potentially harmful viruses and bacteria, especially in dealing with wounds. But what about our healthy flora? Read more…

Managing RSV and Pertussis

Our family caught a virus, which went from one member to the next with a fever and cough. I didn’t get the fever, but got the cough. Soon my 6 week old started coughing too. On the third night, he wouldn’t stop crying and his cough sounded congested.

We tried suctioning out his nose, but didn’t get much at first. Mike could tell that there wasn’t liquid in his lungs. The majority of congestion or mucous was right in the throat and nose where we couldn’t reach. Mike decided to take him to the ER and suction out the mucous. There are so many cases like this where we live, that there are “suction clinics” set up in Utah InterMountain hospitals, so parents can take their child and get the mucous suctioned out quickly. Are You On Guard Against Colds & Sickness?

Hey! This is Jenni’s sister, Emili.  Jenni and I aren’t big believers in getting a flu shot.  You can read more about her opinion on that here.  But we both believe in doing all we can to prevent sickness and working with the tools we have.  I would like to tell you about a popular tool we use in our family, doTERRA’s OnGuard essential oil blend.

A few months ago I was in a meeting with Dr. Hill, one of the main developers and researchers on the doTERRA team, and he was explaining a study they had just completed at the University of Oklahoma.  It’s in the process of being published, but I’ve learned that it takes a long time to get through that process.  I’ll put a link to it once it does though.  For now I’ll just summarize. Resolving Urinary Tract Infections

I ate a bunch of sugar over Thanksgiving weekend. Who can resist all the tempting pies and other treats within easy reach over these holidays? I can’t. Especially when I’m 7 1/2 months pregnant.

I’ve been feeling fine, but a couple days after I got home from our trip I found myself with very low energy. I should have been tipped off by my feelings of not caring about anything and just wanting to go back to bed.

I didn’t have the normal symptoms of burning when I went to the bathroom or the frequent need to go, but I know I am more prone to yeast and urinary tract infections when I’m pregnant. Luckily, I had an appointment with my midwife, Vickie Sorensen the same day I lost my energy. Read more…

Constipation: Eliminate It!

What health problems do you struggle with? Chances are, the root of your problem stems back to some form of constipation.

Dr. Christopher, my old-time herbalist hero, taught that constipation is the cause of every disease. Some part of the body gets constipated and causes problems which are manifested as “dis-ease.” It doesn’t have to be just the digestive tract. It can be any system of the body.

Slim & Sassy – The Fat Burning Revolution

Hey! This is Emili, Jen’s sister.  I think most of us have a couple unwanted pounds we wouldn’t mind parting with. True? I’m going to share how new Doterra products have helped me and how they can help you shed extra lbs.

(Please keep in mind that I am a stay-at-home Mom that has had some great weight-loss success lately, but I am not a doctor or trained health professional.  I’m just sharing what has worked for me.)

Help for Endometriosis, PCOS & Other Pelvic Issues

Do you ever experience intense discomfort or cramping during your monthly cycle? Do you ever have unexplained pain or heavy bleeding from the uterus? Do you or anyone you know suffer from Endometriosis, polycystic ovaries (PCOS) or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease?

Recently I’ve been studying essential oils and how they can help with these women’s pelvic issues.
From what I’ve found, many of the same essential oils are recommended for these different issues. I’m also including information on herbal and dietary help.

Why Spend More For Quality Essential Oils?

This was one of my first questions as I learned about essential oils years ago. The first thing I noticed was there is a wide spectrum of prices for essential oils out there. You could pay $5 for one kind of oil by one brand or $100 for a bottle by another brand. What’s the difference?

I am currently taking an aromatherapy course through Dr Christopher’s School of Natural Healing, and one thing I’m learning is that the same plant can have different compounds and constituents depending upon what variety it is, where it’s grown, how it’s processed and what parts of the plant are used.

Usually, there is one specific part of a plant that contains essential oil of the highest medicinal value. Many producers Read more…

Bringing The ER Home

Mike had to put staples in our son Isaac‘s head the other night.

Isaac, 7 years old, was playing with his brother. They had covered some PVC pipe with a foam swim noodle.
Unfortunately, when it got thrown at Isaac’s head, the foam slipped down so the sharp end of the PVC gouged him just Read more…

Resolving Earaches & Infections

Earaches are not difficult to resolve at home.

The most economical tool is garlic. Garlic oil can be rubbed on the bottoms of the feet, around the ear and dripped in (2 drops in each ear) at night to kill infection. Two cloves of garlic is equal in strength to an adult dose of penicillin.

Fixing A Crushed Toe

One time a good friend of ours called and informed me that while he was moving a pool table with his wife (Nicole), they had dropped one corner of it on her big toe. The toe was crushed. They didn’t think going to the ER would be all that productive and would be expensive to boot. What should they do?

I told them to come over and I started gathering remedies.
I pulled out my dependable Cuts & Bruises oil which eases pain, reduces inflammation and fights infection.

I grabbed some Complete Tissue ointment and Bone, Flesh & Cartilage herb blend (BF&C) for her to use in a tea for Read more…

Resolving Sore or Strep Throat

I’ve had 2 calls in the last week about sore or strep throat, so I thought I’d share my recommendations.

My throat is my barometer for the well-being of my body. When my throat starts to hurt, I know I need to cut back on heavy foods (especially after the holidays) and give my body a break.

Here are a few things I do to help my body get balanced again and fight any infections that may be starting. Read more…
